FIONA HESTON
FIONA HESTON

Fiona, TYA Yoga teacher, passed away Wednesday 31st July.
Sadly missed by her fellow teachers and students.

Fiona completed her basic Yoga teacher training with the TYA in 2002.   However, she went on to be trained in taking Yoga into palliative care and it was in this field that she served, teaching Yoga to both those living with cancer as well as their carers.  Her teaching always centered around enhancing the quality of life of people living with chronic or terminal illnesses and she became a member of the National Association of Complementary Therapists in Hospice and Palliative care.  As well as being a TYA teacher Fiona was very actively involved in the Berkshire Yoga Teachers Circle (BYTC).

Fiona said, “I believe that it is critical for us all to have some ‘breathing space’ and I am fascinated by the fact that something as simple as changing the rhythm of breathing can have a profound effect on diseases of the body/mind. Through my teaching I have found how relaxation and visualization can act in a profound way to bring the immune system back into balance and act as a vital element in the healing process. Body and mind can ‘let go’ and surrender themselves to inner stillness and peace, and this is extremely helpful when living with a serious illness.

I explored this further when I undertook a healing course with Swami Ambikananda and discovered the profound effect working with subtle energy can have on the mind, body and spirit”.

We all remember Fiona and her beautiful smile, sweet voice and bright colours.  The way she approached her own illness at the end, after serving so many with terminal illnesses, was an inspiration to all of us.

She is survived by her husband Paul Gregory and siblings.

Her farewell details are:

The cremation will take place at Easthampstead Park Crematorium on Wednesday 21st August at 1.00 pm.  This will be followed by a celebration of her life at Peacock Farm pub Bracknell at 2.15 pm..

Her family have requested that no flowers be sent to the funeral but that those wishing to, could make a donation to either the Duchess of Kent Hospice or to Water Aid.

In the name of her fellow teachers, the TYA will be sending £120 to the Duchess of Kent Hospice.
