As a computer engineer Claire has an analytical approach to most things, including her practice of Yoga. After many years of attending regular classes, and feeling the need to deepen her knowledge of the subject, she was encouraged by her teacher to undertake the Teacher Training course. Having approached it simply to gain a wider and deeper understanding of Yoga she was surprised to find that she enjoyed teaching.

“I did not expect, when I first attended a Yoga class many years ago, that it would become such an important part of my life: I am a practical person, tending to be fairly black and white about things and Yoga seemed a little too vague for me. I like to know how things work. To my surprise Yoga offered me so much, spiritually and mentally as well as physically. Offered is the important word here: The Traditional Yoga Association® approach to teaching Yoga is to offer you possibilities, and let you take from them what you need. I was able to absorb things at my own pace, without ever feeling pressured. In this way over the years Yoga has allowed me to find out more and more about how I work, and continues to teach me patience and calmness. It is because I find it so interesting and rewarding that I hope to offer to others the possibility of making similar discoveries for themselves.”

“In a society which uses the term ‘self-centred’ to express disapprovaI I think that it is really important to legitimise self-awareness. I aim to help people to learn to be at ease with themselves, and to move toward developing a calm.”
